Bangladesh cites Philippine BPO sector’s success in summit
Bangladesh’s state minister for ICT cited the Philippine business process outsourcing (BPO) industry’s success as an example when comparing Bangladesh’s BPO sector to that of its neighboring countries, at the recent Fourth Business Process Outsourcing Summit in Dhaka. Zunaid Ahmed Palak said that around 1 million young men in the Philippines are earning a total of USD300m in the industry, and that Bangladesh can work to reach any goal set by the prime minister’s ICT adviser, Sajeeb Wazed Joy. Joy urged his countrymen not to resort to unequal competition with the neighboring countries, stressing that they are leading the global market in the outsourcing sector. “We can’t fight them now… Our BPO industry does not need to confront the challenge. We don’t need to copy them,” said Joy. He challenged IT experts to invent new technology for the youth to be able to lead the fourth industrial revolution. Meanwhile, Mustafa Jabbar, Bangladesh’s post, telecommunication, and IT minister, called on the country’s telecom, domestic banking, and commercial sectors to use BPO to their advantage.
