Verizon strike leads to angry confrontation in Alabang
The ongoing labor dispute at Verizon over its outsourcing practices nearly led to violence in Alabang this week, where armed police and members of the Communications Workers of America were confronted by police after visiting Verizon offices in Alabang, where the union reps said they hoped to gauge the extent of the company’s call center job outsourcing, according to website UPI. According to union members they were chased off by private security forces who pursued their van through the streets of Alabang and ultimately stopped them for questioning, guns drawn, the website reports. While no one was hurt in the confrontation, it illustrates the divisiveness of the ongoing battle between workers and the New York-based communications company.
