Wipro internal systems used by hackers to attack customers
Outsourcing company Wipro has launched an investigation into the hacking of its networks and systems, which are being used to attack customers. Forensic evidence showed that at least eleven companies have been attacked, but it is not known which ones. However, Wipro has yet to issue a statement on the said attacks. Customers under attack traced suspicious traffic back to partner systems communicating directly with Wipro’s corporate network. Wipro is said to have created a private email service to replace the compromised corporate system. Citing anonymous sources, US security expert and publisher Brian Krebs said the breach in Wipro’s systems is being viewed as a state-sponsored exercise, and that the systems are being used as launchpads for attacks on the outsourcer’s customers. A company spokesperson told Krebs that Wipro is protected by an advanced security technology to detect phishing attempts, and monitors its entire infrastructure to deal with cyber threats.
