Key responsibilities

  • Audit preparation. Coordinate with external auditors and facilitate the audit process to ensure compliance and transparency.

Qualifications and skills

  • Previous experience in accounting or finance roles, with progressively increasing levels of responsibility, is usually required. Experience in a managerial or supervisory role is also preferred.
  • Strong proficiency in financial analysis, accounting principles, and financial software systems (such as ERP systems) is essential. Knowledge of regulatory compliance and reporting requirements is also necessary.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, are important for interacting with stakeholders at all levels of the organization and presenting financial information clearly and understandably.
  • The ability to analyze complex financial data, identify trends, and make data-driven recommendations is critical for success in this role.
  • As a financial controller, you may be responsible for managing a team of finance professionals, so strong leadership and managerial skills are valuable.

Educational requirements

Typically, a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is required.

Many employers prefer candidates with advanced degrees such as a Master of Business Administration (MBA) or a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation.
