Managing Productivity in Remote Organisations with Ryan Fyfe of WorkPuls
About Workpuls
Derek Gallimore talks with Ryan Fyfe, Chief Operating Officer of Workpuls and former CEO of Humanity.com. Focusing on employee monitoring, Workpuls helps employers track their employees’ activities and provide analytics about an individual’s work shift.
In ten years of being a CEO in Humanity.com, Ryan has learned so much about workplace productivity and employee monitoring. In this episode, Derek and Ryan will discuss the importance of monitoring and work scheduling, how Workpuls helps in managing employees, and the future trends in workplace productivity.
Key takeaways from Humanity.com
Ryan is currently the Chief Operating Officer of Workpuls, a leading employee monitoring and time tracking software. Before this, he spent ten years as the founder, former CEO and Chairman of Humanity.com. Humanity.com is also a major employee scheduling software.
In his ten years in Humanity.com, Ryan shared some valuable takeaways from the company:
- Employee monitoring, scheduling, and time-tracking is more complex than it looks. Ryan said learning and working on this type of software isn’t as easy as it looks. These things have to follow certain compliances, which can “provide much much better benefits for the staff.”
- It’s important to think from a perspective that directly includes your workforce in the decision making. It’s necessary to bring staff and take their inputs into consideration.
Diving deep into Workpuls
In Ryan’s words, Workpuls “is a software as a service (Saas) that tracks activities that are happening on a computer.” He said they use the gathered data “to be able to provide productivity and analytics on what’s happening during an individual’s work shift.” Workpuls replaces traditional time clocks by conducting time monitoring at a more automated level. They do automated timesheets and productivity trends reports, among other things.
At a deeper level, Ryan noted that Workpuls “can go really deep into the analytics and show productivity trends over time.” They can show the peak periods of the day, confirm if your forecasts match their data, and find which business processes might be taking longer than others.
There are a lot of other things that their tool can do, says the Workpuls CEO. It can provide transparency, which is helpful since customers are now asking their BPO clients for visibility and insights. He said that enables that data, that visibility and optimization to flow all the way through to the end users as well.” In addition, he assured that they “have built and spent a lot of time to ensure that their product isn’t encroaching on people’s privacy.”
There’s also “a whole client component” to Workpuls, where companies “an invite clients to projects, set budgets, and co-parent on that side.”
Further, Ryan is proud to say that “WorkPuls had a fantastic year.” The service grew over 600% last year, and one of their fastest growing segments has been within the Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) sector.
Productivity trends in the near future
As for the future of the general workforce, Ryan thinks that we’re “moving towards a hybrid model.” He expects that there will be companies adopting the work from home arrangement, while some may make it optional. However, both the office and home setups have their own pros and cons, so it’s all about finding the balance.
