Outsourcing’s true colors
The outsourcing industry has been accused of worker exploitation, low salaries, and a cruel work environment. Naysayers have compared it to sweatshops and branded it unethical.
These are unfounded claims by outsiders who have not spent the time to discover how great the industry is and how millions of people from developing countries are building fruitful careers in it.
The reality: Outsourcing is an economic godsend to economies, communities and workers alike. On the whole, the industry provides great jobs, highly paid salaries, career opportunities, and safe and happy work environments.
According to experts, specifically the research firm Great Place To Work, outsourcing companies emerged as the top workplaces in the Philippines. In the firm’s fifth annual report, outsourcing companies Accenture and TaskUs ranked second and third, respectively.
Other outsourcing companies on the list are Research and Development Corporation, Teleperformance, Capital One Philippines, DXC Technology Philippines, CGI Philippines, [24]7.ai Philippines, and Tech Mahindra Limited Philippines.
While we’ve briefly touched on the Philippine case, the same is likely true for outsourcing companies worldwide. The outsourcing industry did not grow into a $300 billion industry by shackling and shortchanging its workers.
Here’s the real truth about how global employment truly operates.
How outsourcing really treats its workers
Offshore firms know that the foundations for success are built on their employees. That’s why they make sure their workers feel fulfilled every working day, have a chance at building great careers, and are gainfully employed.
In the Philippines, for example, outsourcing companies offer entry-level employment at least US$500 per month, well above the minimum monthly wage for the country of around US$244. It may seem little, but for emerging economies, this enables their people to support their families.
Additionally, outsourcing enterprises worldwide offer premium health benefits, paid leaves, and scholarship programs.
A win-win for employers and offshore staff
There’s a misconception that outsourcing workers do low-value and repetitive work. However, the industry has evolved and now supports high demand for complex roles such as accountants, software developers, designers, HR professionals, social media support, and many more.
Global clients look to outsourcing to fill highly skilled in-demand roles. Meanwhile, offshore staff get great jobs with global firms and broaden their professional networks, paving the way for career growth and enhanced opportunities.
While it is true that clients save up to 70% on costs through offshoring, it is nowhere near exploitative. Both parties benefit from this arrangement, making it a win-win for all.
